South Korea's CJ Logistics on Thursday said it launched The Unban, a freight transportation platform that directly connects senders and freight trucks through artificial intelligence and big data technology.
The platform allows a freight truck owner to select a transportation bid after a bidder uploads information such as point of departure, destination and cargo type.
The company said it expects the platform to resolve the problem of high commission fees plaguing small-scale freight trucks.
Freight transportation in Korea is dubbed a typical "lemon market," in which many low-quality goods are distributed due to lack of data between sellers and consumers. This is because both senders and truckers lack information on the other party and must rely on intermediary brokers.
The Unban is expected to lower such fees by directly connecting senders and freight truckers.
The platform searches for the optimal fees in real time and proposes the best service based on a sender's information.
CJ Logistics will also tackle structural problems in domestic freight transportation through a service that provides roundtrip routes in real time.
