Doosan Enerbility bags $200 mn Qatar power plant EPC deal

Doosan Enerbility Co. has clinched an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a gas-fired power plant from Qatar in a consortium that includes Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), according to foreign media reports.

The consortium on March 3 signed the agreement with Qatar Electricity & Water Co. (QEWC) for a $439.5 million project, under which the Middle Eastern country will build a 500-megawatt single-cycle peak generation gas power plant.

The contract also includes commissioning of two F-class advanced gas turbine generator units, alongside auxiliary systems.

Doosan Enerbility will take charge of about half of the project, amounting to around $200 million.

The plant will be located in the Ras Abu Fontas Industrial Zone, south of Doha. It is scheduled for completion and expected to be operational by January 2027.

Peak-load power plants enhance grid stability and reliability by meeting surging electricity demand during peak periods.

The latest EPC order aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 to transition towards a more efficient energy mix.
