SK Telecom Co. and KT Corp. received the Leading Lights Awards 2024.
SK Telecom and KT were named winners of Outstanding Use Case: AI/Machine Learning and Company of the Year respectively.
The Leading Lights is Light Reading's flagship awards program. It's well-known in the global telecom operating and services market.
SK Telecom said on Wednesday that it won this award based on its research and development (R&D) achievements in reducing smartphone power consumption using on-device AI technology.
SK Telecom developed a technology that uses on-device AI to predict whether data will be generated within a certain period and optimally control the connection between the device and the base station based on the prediction results.

KT earned the Company of the Year, marking two consecutive years of winning awards. The company was recognized last year as the Most Innovative 5G Core Deployment.
KT was highly evaluated for its efforts to transform into an AICT (Artificial Intelligence + Information and Communications Technology) company, based on its network infrastructure, including the nationwide 5G SA network.
