Hyundai Motor Group has most IIHS ROP top safety pick cars

Hyundai Motor Group announced on Friday that the Hyundai Motor Co.'s IONIQ 5 achieved the highest rating of "Top Safety Pick Plus" (TSP+) in crash tests conducted by the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which was announced the day before.

Sonata and Santa Fe are newly included in the "Top Safety Pick" (TSP) category, along with a total of 18 vehicle models receiving TSP or higher ratings.

According to Hyundai Motor Group, in this year's IIHS evaluations, Hyundai had nine models, Kia had two models, and Genesis had seven models that received TSP or higher ratings.

This is the highest number of models among automotive groups, with Hyundai Motor surpassing Toyota (8 models) and securing the most selections for a single brand.

The TSP+ rating was achieved by Hyundai IONIQ 6, IONIQ 5, Kona, Genesis G90, G80, G80 electric model, GV80, GV60 and Kia Corps.' Telluride.

The TSP rating was received by Hyundai Avante (Elantra), Tucson, Palisade, Santa Cruz, Sonata, Santa Fe, Genesis GV70, GV70 electric model and Kia Sportage.

IIHS awards the TSP+ rating to vehicles with the highest level of safety and the TSP rating to those with a good level of safety. Hyundai Motor Group explained that it became more difficult to achieve excellent ratings this year due to stricter criteria for rear passenger protection and pedestrian collision prevention systems compared to previous years.

This year, 26 vehicle models received the TSP+ rating, and 49 vehicle models received the TSP rating.

IIHS is a non-profit organization founded in 1959 that comprehensively evaluates the crash safety performance and crash prevention performance of vehicles released in the US market each year.
