South Korea's Lotte Chemical announced on Thursday that it has applied recycled materials to all 25 kg packaging bags for polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) produced at its Yeosu and Daesan plants.
The newly modified packaging bags incorporate 30% recycled materials and are produced using recycled polyethylene (r-PE) from Lotte Chemical's eco-friendly material brand, Ecoseed.
As of 2023, the Yeosu and Daesan plants have used 5,400 tons of plastic to produce packaging bags. Lotte Chemical expects that packaging bags with r-PE materials can reduce plastic usage by approximately 1,500 tons annually.
Since 2021, the company has been conducting research and development for the application of recycled plastic packaging bags. It's in the process of establishing a plastic circular system to produce raw materials for r-PE bags.
