Tata Daewoo resumes truck exports to Algeria

South Korea's Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company announced on Tuesday that it resumed truck exports to Algeria under the Daewoo brand. 

Tata Daewoo aims to expand its service, sales, and spare parts network with Algiers at the center. 

The company plans to launch its subcompact truck Dexen in Algeria this year.  

The company has set a goal to export more than 1,000 complete vehicles annually based on the 2024 import quota under consideration by the Algerian government.

Tata Daewoo started its Algerian export business in 1999 and recorded cumulative exports of over 9,000 vehicles until 2015.

However, due to the Algerian government restricting automobile imports citing trade deficits and domestic industrial protection, the export volumes of Tata Daewoo and other global automakers declined sharply.

In response, as Algeria began easing restrictions on imported vehicles last year, Tata Daewoo obtained an export license for complete vehicles in April last year and resumed exports in September.
