South Korea’s SK Telecom Co. has rolled out an iPhone app using artificial intelligence (AI) that allows users to record calls on their smartphones.
The company on Tuesday said its AI personal assistant service A. offers functions such as recording, analyzing and summarizing calls made through the app.
An A. call uses AI to analyze the latter’s content and provides a category and summary for it.
The app offers phone chats that it can record after either making or receiving a call.
To make a call, go to the AI phone menu in the app and input the desired number using the keypad or refer to the call history or contacts in the A. home section. If a user has previously chatted with another party using the app, a record of past calls appears on the outgoing call screen.
When receiving a call, A. users get it as an A. call rather than that from a regular phone. The incoming screen displays a log of past calls with the other party.
After the call ends, a recorded file is created and appears in chat form through speech-to-text conversion.
A. through AI creates a one-line summary of a call’s content, detailed synopsis and representative tags for each chat’s paragraph, and AI-based suggestions for patterns like schedules and phone and account numbers mentioned during the call. Voice playback and searches for call texts and summaries are also supported.
The recorded calls are stored on a user's terminal as app data subject to automatic deletion one year after creation. Such files saved on the app are deleted if the app or a user’s call summaries are deleted or a user terminates A. membership, with no recovery possible.
