South Korea’s Hanwha Robotics on Sunday announced its signing of an agreement on the development and commercial use of a robotics system for kitchen automation with Wave Lifestyle Technologies, a Seoul-based company that uses robotics in food technology.
Through this partnership, both sides plan to devise a joint business model for kitchen automation in which Hanwha Robotics is responsible for robot design and technologies for production, control and safety while Wave will develop the system’s design and software technology.
Launched on Oct. 4, Hanwha Robotics is a spinoff of the collaborative robot and factory automation (FA) units under Hanwha/Momentum, the comprehensive engineering solution division of Hanwha Corp. The latter company owns 68% of the venture and Hanwha Hotels & Resorts Co. 32%.
Under a strategy to expand its synergy with Hanwha Hotels & Resorts Co., Hanwha Robotics will diversify its product lineup beyond industrial collaborative robots by developing software such as service apps that can directly respond to customers.
“The development of food tech using robots will help improve the environment of the food and beverage industry,” said Kim Dong-seon, an executive of the strategy planning division of Hanwha Robotics. “Our win-win cooperation will continue in various areas.”
