South Korea’s Noroo Paint on Wednesday said it developed an eco-friendly plastic container capable of oxidative biodegradation for its main products.
The innovative packaging will be first applied to the company’s flagship product The Stain for distribution from next month. The development of this item is in line with Noroo’s strategy of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) management.
The new container was made by adding d2w, an oxidative biodegradation additive developed by the British chemical company Symphony Environmental Technologies. Conventional general plastic containers break into small pieces when incinerated, causing environmental problems such as microplastics.
This new green packaging, however, reacts to bacteria, oxygen, ultraviolet rays and heat in soil and marine environments and undergoes biodegradation by microorganisms within five years. They are eventually converted to carbon dioxide, water and biomass.
