South Korea's major food company SPC Group has taken steps to improve its brand image in the United States by offering baking training and food donations in New York.
Paris Baguette, SPC's bakery franchise, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea and the New York City government to provide internship opportunities for local citizens and support minority and women-owned businesses.
The MOU was signed at the Paris Baguette location on 567 7th Ave., and was attended by Hur Jin-soo, Paris Baguette North America Chief Strategy Officer, Eric Adams, New York City Mayor, James Kim, the CEO of AMCHAM Korea and other officials.
Through the internship program, Paris Baguette plans to offer local citizens baking training and practical training opportunities, as well as ongoing career development opportunities including employment. It also plans to provide food donations to vulnerable populations in the five boroughs of New York City.
"Paris Baguette will become a pillar of the local community in New York City," said Hur. "Our company will provide diverse support and opportunities to help women and socially disadvantaged individuals grow as future leaders."
Paris Baguette has been running over 130 stores nationwide in the United States since entering the US market in 2005, with over 30 stores in New York City alone. The company aims to open 1,000 stores in the North American region, including Canada, by 2030.
