Samsung Electronics, KAIST join forces to train robotics experts

Samsung Electronics Co. has partnered with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to cultivate specialists in robotics.

On Monday, the South Korean electronics giant announced the establishment of the Samsung Electronics Robotics Talent Training Program. The master's program, which will also act as a hiring channel for the company, will select 10 scholarship students each year starting in 2023 and provide industry-academia scholarships to cover tuition and other expenses.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must agree to work for Samsung Electronics after earning their master's degree. The program will focus on advanced theories in robotics and the development of job-related skills.

Selected students will receive in-house training at the company and opportunities to participate in international robotics conferences and exhibitions.

"We are committed to supporting students as they work to develop robots as the next major growth engine," said Jeon Kyung-hoon, CTO of Samsung Electronics' DX division.

This collaboration is in line with the vision of Chairman Jay Y. Lee, who set the robot business as one of the company's future growth areas back in 2021, along with system semiconductors, biotechnology, next-generation telecommunications, and artificial intelligence. He announced plans to invest 240 trillion won ($189 billion) over three years in these future new businesses.
