South Korea's Hyundai Engineering on Sunday said the country's Ministry of Environment selected the company to receive electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure subsidies, and announced the launch of construction of EV charging equipment for public institutions nationwide, including local governments and apartment complexes.
The company will integrate an EV charging system into the design stage of new Hillstate Apartment complexes and install charging facilities at public institutions, factories as well as business and commercial facilities.
On Saturday, Hyundai Engineering signed an agreement with Goheung County, South Jeolla Province, to set up and operate 42 rapid charging stations and 51 slow chargers in parking lots at public facilities in the county such as the Goheung government offices, Goheung Space Launch Observatory and Nokdong New Port Passenger Terminal. The company also signed deals to build EV-charging facilities with the governments of Seoul; Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province; Goseong County, Gangwon Province; and Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province.
Hyundai Engineering launched its EV infrastructure business in 2020 by taking over the unit from its parent Hyundai Motor Group. Last October, the company formed an EV service team under its asset management division, and on Feb. 3, it concluded a three-way deal with Hyundai Motor, Kia Corp. and Woorihom, a housing management firm, to expand EV charging infrastructure at apartment complexes.
