Hyundai Rotem, the railway system subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, announced on Monday it has published information about its sales and research and development progress in its railway vehicle and signal system supply business and hydrogen energy facility manufacturing and supply business on its website.
The company said the sectors are suitable for green economic activities as defined by K-Taxonomy.
K-Taxonomy, a guideline released by the South Korean Ministry of Environment in 2022, is designed to revive green finance and identify eco-friendly economic activities that support environmental goals such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.
According to Hyundai Rotem, its internal analysis found that its rail solution business, including high-speed trains, trains, and trams, meets K-Taxonomy's standards for "manufacturing pollution-free vehicles and railway vehicles."
The company also said its hydrogen energy businesses, including hydrogen charging stations and hydrogen extractors, align with K-Taxonomy's standards for "building and operating pollution-free transport infrastructure" and "manufacturing hydrogen."
As of 2021, Hyundai Rotem's sales share in projects that complies with K-Taxonomy reached 48.2%.
