In a first for shipbuilding, South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries has developed a system to confirm all data generated in the process of shipbuilding from quotation to delivery.

The company on Thursday said it will apply SYARD, a data-based company-integrated and controllable monitoring system.

SYARD converts individually managed information into big data using the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence by visualizing connected and analyzed information and providing it in real time.

The company said this optimizes decision making based on data to enable efficient management of business resources such as personnel, materials and energy and the detection and elimination of risk factors.

Samsung Heavy Industries this year aims to cut production costs 10% and expand smart technologies to classification society, partners, and customers by 2025 to build a 'smart ecosystem' throughout the supply chain.
