South Korea's major memory chip producer SK Hynix Inc. said on Thursday that it has received certification that its 10-nm class fourth-generation (1a) DDR5 server DRAM can be used in conjunction with a new microprocessor recently released by Intel.
The company's 1a DDR5 is a memory chip manufactured with state-of-the-art extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) technology. SK Hynix explained that it is the world's first 10-nm class fourth-generation DRAM to be certified by Intel.
DRAM for servers is a memory chip combined with a microprocessor and used in data centers. Up until recently, the main item used for this purpose was DDR4. Intel introduced a new microprocessor codenamed Sapphire Rapids that supports DDR5 for the first time on Tuesday.
Industry analysts predicted that with the launch of Sapphire Rapids, the main DRAM products for servers will rapidly transition to DDR5 from DDR4.
"We will actively supply DDR5 in line with market demand and strive to overcome the current chip market downturn early on," said an official of SK Hynix.
