LG Display to showcase high-performance OLED panels for gaming at CES

LG Display Co. said on Thursday that it would unveil new 45-inch ultra-wide OLED panels and 27-inch OLED panels optimized for gaming at CES 2023, the world's largest technology and consumer electronics trade show to be held in Las Vegas next month.

As LG Display's first gaming-only OLED panels, the company said that it provides an immersive gaming experience by adding overwhelming performance to three-dimensional picture quality.

In addition, the response speed is 0.03 ms, the fastest among existing panels. Response speed refers to the time it takes for graphics card signals to reach the screen.

The refresh rate, which means the number of images that can be reproduced per second, is up to 240 Hz, showing clear and smooth transitions even in fast screen changes.

By applying a special polarizer plate for gaming, the image reflection problem in which surrounding objects are reflected on the screen in a dark scene is also minimized.

In addition, by appointing the flexible display feature, which allows free movement between flat and curved surfaces, the screen can be bent and unfolded, enabling the setting of curvature optimized for different game genres.

The amount of blue light emission unhealthy to the eyes is about half of the LCD, and there is no screen flickering that may cause headaches and less eye fatigue even during long hours of gameplay.

The company started mass-producing OLED panels for gaming this month. It will be mounted on premium gaming monitors from global electronic device manufacturers such as Asus and Corsair Gaming, as well as LG Electronics.

"We will provide new customer experiences based on OLED's unique strengths, including fast response speed, perfect black, and flexible display, and will preempt the high-end gaming display market," said Lee Tae-jong, manager of LG Display's Solution CX2 unit.
