CJ CheilJedang Corp. said on Thursday that it has applied a biodegradable container developed from a composite material mixed with PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate) and PLA (polylactic acid) to CJ Olive Young's private brand WakeMake "water velvet vegan cushion."

Biodegradable materials were applied to the entire outer container except for the inner container and mirror.

PLA is the most widely used biodegradable material, but it has limitations in that it is weak against impact and difficult to process into various shapes.

The company created a cosmetic container based on the fact that mixing PHA with PLA could overcome this weakness.

In particular, amorphous PHA (aPHA), which has soft properties similar to rubber, was used, which is a material that only CJ CheilJedang can mass-produce in the world.

This is the first time in South Korea that PHA-based containers have been used for cosmetics.

"With the launch of the WakeMake cushion this time, we expect that the application of eco-friendly biodegradable materials to consumer products will expand further," said an official of CJ CheilJedang.
