Hyundai Motor Co. said on Sunday that it had signed an agreement to supply vehicles to Libya's disabled through the Social Solidarity Fund, an agency affiliated with the Libyan Ministry of Social Affairs.
Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor will supply 3,000 Venue vehicles to disabled victims of the civil war in the North African country by the end of the first half of 2023.
The Social Solidarity Fund is a public agency established for the welfare of socially vulnerable persons and those disabled during Libya's civil war. Through the vehicle purchase support program, 50% of the car's cost will be subsidized.
The cars are specially equipped with a hand controller that lets users operate the accelerator and brake with their hands instead of feet in the case of lower extremity disabilities, and a steering wheel turning device for drivers who need to operate the steering wheel with one hand.
"Through our ongoing partnership with the Libyan government, we will ensure that anyone can enjoy the freedom of movement regardless of disability," said Lim Hyeong-joong, head of Hyundai Motor's Africa and Middle East headquarters.
Last year, Hyundai Motor had signed a similar deal with the Social Solidarity Fund to supply 2,300 vehicles to the disabled.
