Lunit exports AI imaging analysis solution to Brazil

South Korea's medical imaging startup Lunit said on Monday it has signed a software licensing agreement with Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for its Lunit Insight CXR, an artificial intelligence (AI) imaging analysis solution for chest X-rays.

Einstein Hospital represents Latin America's largest hospital system, operating three general hospitals with more than 600 beds, 10 satellite hospitals and 24 outpatient centers.

Under the agreement terms, Lunit will supply Lunit Insight CXR to Einstein Hospital by 2025. The hospital plans to use the AI solution to read up to 40,000 chest X-ray images per year in its intensive care units and emergency rooms as well as in the patient examination process.

Lunit Insight CXR is an AI-based product that diagnoses 10 different chest diseases, including lung cancer and pneumothorax, with a 97% to 99% accuracy rate. The equipment was recently certified under the new European medical device regulation (MDR).

"Lunit Insight CXR will be an excellent tool to support medical staff's diagnostic decision-making. In partnership with Lunit, which possesses world-class technology, we will continue to provide quality medical services that meet all of our patient needs," said Sidney Klajner, CEO of Einstein Hospital.

"We will focus our sales effort so that the latest agreement can serve as a foothold for moving further into Latin America," said Lunit CEO Suh Beom-seok.
