SK C&C to automate production process of SKC's US subsidiary

SK C&C announced on Wednesday that it will start a project to install a full-process automation system based on its smart factory platform I-FACTs Smart Vision at a semiconductor parts plant of SKC's US subsidiary Absolics Inc.

I-FACTs Smart Vision is an AI-based smart factory platform developed by SK C&C by itself and has the ability to read the minimum unit pixels on the screen and quickly learn the read information.

SK says that the platform can standardize operational processes and track real-time in all areas, including production, facilities, and quality, from material input to product shipment.

Currently, Absolics Inc. is building a plant to produce next-generation semiconductor material "glass substrate" in  Covington, Georgia, with a total investment of $600 million.

The glass substrate is a thin layer of glass on which processing and memory chips can be mounted together to create the brain of a computing system.

It can significantly increase the performance and energy efficiency of chipsets compared to conventional printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Absolics is expected to be the first in the world to mass-produce the material if it starts production in earnest in the second quarter of 2024.

 "We will do our best to ensure that Absolics can always produce the best-quality semiconductor materials through smart factories," said Kim Sung-hwan, head of SK C&C's manufacturing digital platform group.
