Samsung Electronics Co. acquired two international certificates regarding cloud security, ISO 27001 and ISO 27017.
South Korea's electronics giant announced on Thursday that it obtained ISO 27001 certification (Information Security Management System) and ISO 27017 certification (Information Security in cloud services), which were established by the International Organization for Standardization and certified by the British Royal Society of Standards.
Acquisition of the certifications demonstrates Samsung Electronics' capabilities to manage and protect information on "Private Cloud," Samsung Electronics' cloud system under operation to provide such services as terminal software updates, is at the global level, said an official of Mobile Experience (MX) division of Samsung Electronics,
ISO 27001 is one of the most prestigious standards to manage information security and was established based on the information protection management system BS7799 standard published by BSI Group in 1999. In order to obtain the certification, an applicant should meet 133 management standards in 11 categories such as information protection policy and information access controls.
ISO 27017 can be acquired only when the cloud service environment and information protection management are built and operated to meet global security standards and proactively protect client information.
Gil-joon Ahn, head of the mobile platform center at Samsung Electronics' MX division, said, "Samsung Electronics has been trying to secure cloud technology and enhance security capabilities," adding, "We will thoroughly protect our Private Cloud to ensure safe operation of various services."
