Samsung Electro-Mechanics on Sunday said it has teamed up with Pohang University of Science and Technology (Postech) to develop outstanding human resources to lead the materials and parts sector.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Postech on devising a training course linked to the recruitment of the school's master's and Ph.D. students in the field. Samsung Electro-Mechanics CEO Chang Duck-hyun, the company's vice president for components Kim Doo-young and Postech President Kim Moo-hwan on Friday attended the MOU signing ceremony at the Postech campus in Pohang, South Gyeongsang Province.
Under the agreement, the company will propose to the university a theme on future technology. Based on this idea, the school's departments related to the sector like that of new materials engineering will conduct a study focusing on one task.
For this project, 14 Postech professors will run a tailored education curriculum for students in the training process, from which selected students will receive scholarships and academic funding as well as the opportunity to join Samsung Electro-Mechanics after finishing their degrees.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics is developing next-generation parts in IT and electronics with core technologies such as materials, multilayer thin-film molding and microcircuit implementation. The company said its main think tank in charge of R&D and other R&D teams within each business unit are speeding up the development of future technologies.
CEO Chang said, "Through its deal with Postech, Samsung Electro-Mechanics will secure technological competitiveness and boost the foundation of the Korean materials and parts industry."
