KT Corp., a major South Korean telecom operator, has teamed up with another local company to expand its digital healthcare business in Vietnam further into Southeast Asia.

On Monday, KT signed an MOU with Daesang Wellife Corp.,Korea’s leading food maker for medical patients, to work on the digital transformation (DX) of medical businesses, such as telemedical services for cancer patients in Vietnam.

“Demand and spending on professional medical services are steadily increasing in Vietnam as its middle class grows,” said KT AI/DX Convergence Business Division head Song Jae-ho.

“The cooperation with Daesang Wellife will allow us to supply comprehensive healthcare services, including diet management.”

EXPANDING INTO SOUTHEAST ASIA

Daesang Wellife plans to provide nutritional guidelines, as well as academic and clinical trials data for patients while providing them food. The company, formerly known as Daesang Life Science, has been supplying its products to medical institutions and supermarkets in Vietnam since 2020.

KT is preparing to deliver contact-free care to post-surgery cancer patients based on a telemedicine platform in Vietnam. It is developing the platform jointly with Medi Plus Solution, a domestic healthcare solutions provider.

Last year, KT agreed with the Vietnam National Cancer Institute to conduct service demonstrations for gastric cancer patients. With Vietnam as its starting point, the carrier aims to expand the telemedicine business across Southeast Asia.
