South Korea’s leading automation equipment maker LS Electric Co. and Thailand’s construction and chemical conglomerate Siam Cement Group (SCG) are set to cooperate in the smart factory business.
LS Electric and SCG discussed the development and commercialization of smart factory technologies, the South Korean company said on Friday.
SCG President of the Cement Building Materials Business Nithi Patarachoke and Thai Ambassador to Korea Witchu Vejjajiva visited LS Electric’s smart factory in Cheongju, about 140 kilometers south of Seoul.
“We will be able to explore various business opportunities in Thailand together,” said Patarachoke after taking a tour of the smart factory.
The World Economic Forum in September last year selected the Cheongju smart factory as a “Lighthouse Factory” that creates a new model of manufacturing performance through the active use of key technologies such as artificial intelligence and cloud to drive the Fourth Industrial Revolution, according to LS Electric.
SMART FACTORY BUSINESSES WITH SOUTHEAST ASIAN COUNTRIES
The factory is equipped with automation systems for all lines to assemble, test and package its main products, low-voltage power devices.
LS Electric has smart factory technologies to meet customers’ requirements such as those for mass production of multiple varieties and those for small-scale production of multiple varieties.
That allowed LS Electric to expand cooperation on smart factories with Southeast Asian countries, the company said.
In May last year, it invited ambassadors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to discuss businesses related to the sector.
