Hyundai Motor Group on Monday released the results of its research project for smart cities in an online exhibition.

In collaboration with the firm Hyunjoon Yoo Architects, the conglomerate presented its optimal model for a futuristic city through its study dubbed "HMG Greenfield Smart City Master Model." The design specifically limited the area for development to minimize damage to the environment and prevent runaway expansion of the city.

Another eye-catching feature is the hexagonal honeycomb structure that maximizes the utility of the limited space. The ground floor has a people-centric space with pedestrian-friendly streets and sufficient greenery, and the design of the underground level emphasizes mobility and logistics.

Conducted jointly with Hongik University under a corporate-academic venture, the project pored over case studies of futuristic cities in polar regions, seas, and deserts. The researchers even prepared to build such a city in an extreme environment and created methods for added value through the complementary use of next-generation mobility like purpose-based vehicles and buildings.
