LG Group announced on Wednesday artificial intelligence ethics principles focusing on respect for humans that employees in the sector must follow as South Korea’s fourth-largest conglomerate aims to develop the new technology as a key to its long-term growth.
The core principles included respect for humans, fairness, safety, accountability and transparency, according to the group, which has affiliates such as the world’s leading home appliance maker LG Electronics Inc., global electric vehicle battery maker LG Energy Solution Ltd. and major petrochemical producer LG Chem Ltd.
“We considered the group’s core ideology of respect for human beings and value creation for customers when selecting those values,” said a group official.
LG AI Research, the group’s hub for the intelligence demonstrated by machines, established a task force to examine how to apply the principles to work in practice.
The group also plans to launch a working group around the end of this year to discuss major ethical issues related to AI within the conglomerate.
