South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace Co., has been chosen as one of the best partners of Rolls-Royce, the world’s leading aircraft engine manufacturer. The Korean aerospace industrial company said on June 20 that it won the Trusted to Deliver Excellence Award from Rolls-Royce at Global Aerospace Supplier Conference 2022 held in May.
The award is given to Rolls-Royce’s partners which supply aircraft engine parts with great qualities and provide timely service. The Korean firm said it has successfully completed the development and an initial supply of core parts of Rolls-Royce Trent, the UK company’s turbofan engine used for Airbus and Boeing aircrafts, and delivered high-quality engine cases without delay.
The two companies’ tie-up was further strengthened last year. In January 2021, Hanwha Aerospace became the first partner company of Rolls-Royce to achieve the highest level of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) certification.
The certification allows the Korean company to inspect and approve on its own the quality of engine parts it develops before moving to the mass production stage for Rolls-Royce. Before awarding the certification, Rolls-Royce had conducted such quality checks itself on engine parts from its global partners, including Hanwha Aerospace.
Rolls-Royce is one of the world’s top three aircraft engine makers alongside two US firms – General Electric (GE) and Pratt & Whitney (P&W). Hanwha Aerospace also won a $320 million deal to supply 72 kinds of airplane engine parts to GE last year, based on a four-year contract from 2023 to 2026.
