Kim Hyun-soo, a former real estate investment head of South Korea's National Pension Service (NPS), has been named Asia head of Allianz Real Estate, according to investment banking sources on Friday.

He will lead the Asian operations of the German insurer's real estate company from July. Based in Singapore, he will also serve as a global investment committee member of Allianz RE.

Since joining the NPS' investment management department in November 2013, Kim had worked as overseas real estate team head between 2015 and 2018 and as real estate investment head between January 2019 and November 2021.

In 2020, he contributed to creating a $2.3 billion joint fund between the NPS and Allianz RE, dubbed AREAP Core I fund.

The alumnus of Columbia University and Havard graduate school had worked at GE Capital Real Estate for six years.

At GE Capital, he had an overlapping period with Allianz RE's global Chief Executive Officer François Trausch who had managed the US company's Asian operations, while Kim was in charge of the South Korean market.
