Hyundai Heavy’s heir apparent to unveil future vision at CES 2022

Hyundai Heavy Industries Group’s heir apparent will introduce the future vision of the world’s largest shipbuilder at an upcoming US trade show.

Chung Ki-sun, president and CEO of both Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings Co. and the group’s intermediate holding company Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. (KSOE), plans to present the group’s future roadmap focusing on innovative technology for shipbuilding, offshore engineering, energy and machinery sectors at a press conference during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to be held Jan. 5-8 in Las Vegas, according to the group.

Chung, a third-generation member of Hyundai Heavy’s founding family, was promoted to the chief executive post during the group management reshuffle in October.

The group is set to showcase its latest and next-generation mobility technology related to self-operating vessels at the CES.

During the press conference on Jan. 5, Avikus, the group's in-house startup specializing in the development of autonomous marine navigational systems, is scheduled to introduce smart shipping mobility.

The group’s chief technology officer and head of KSOE’s advanced research center Kim Sung-joon will present its offshore hydrogen value chain that can cope with the climate changes.

The group’s two other major affiliates, Hyundai Doosan Infracore Co. and Hyundai Construction Equipment Co., will also showcase their robotic industrial equipment and remote-control technology at the trade show.

Oden Ran, CEO of Clue Insights, Hyundai Doosan Infracore's big data-based heavy machinery management solution developer, will also outline a safer and more efficient future construction site plan during the press conference.
