LG Elec brings GeForce Now games to smart TVs

LG Electronics Inc., the global home appliance giant, will now enable gamers to enjoy Nvidia Corp.’s game streaming service GeForce Now on their TVs.

LG on Nov. 18 announced a partnership with Nvidia to develop a smart TV app for GeForce Now for LG TVs running webOS, becoming the first TV manufacturer to offer the multinational technology company’s gaming service.

The app is available in beta in the LG Content Store on select 2021 models such as LG 4K OLED, QNED Mini LED and NanoCell TV in 80 markets. The app will enable owners with compatible TVs to instantly enjoy over 35 free-to-play games with just a compatible controller. Players do not need additional hardware.

Hit game titles such as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Crysis Remastered Trilogy are all playable at up to 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, according to LG. GeForce Now Priority members get access to an advanced platform for ray tracing and AI technologies, streaming from Nvidia RTX-powered servers in data centers worldwide.

“Partnering with Nvidia to bring GeForce NOW to LG TV owners is a sign of our commitment to deliver the best gaming experience on LG TVs running webOS,” said Lee Sang-woo, senior vice president of corporate business strategy at LG Electronics’ home entertainment unit.

LG has been expanding services and content for its smart TVs including its LG Channels service, which provides about 1,900 channels for free in 25 countries across the globe.
