South Korea’s exports of computers and peripheral devices have logged steady growth over the past six months, reaching an all-time high of $1.69 billion for August exports. This is a 26.7% increase compared to the year-earlier period, driven by increased cases of working from home, virtual classes and meetings due to the global pandemic.

Exports of computers and peripheral devices rose by 53.1% compared to the same period in 2020 when the COVID-19 outbreak reached its peak. The upward trend has remained steady this year as well.

Exports of computers and peripheral devices in August
As of August 2021, increased demand for computer components pushed the computer export amount to $180 million, up by 5.2% from the year-earlier period. SSDs drove exports of peripheral devices, recording around $1.5 billion, up by 29.8% compared to the year-earlier period. Both computers and peripheral devices saw exports increase steadily for six consecutive months.

Outbound shipments of computers and peripheral devices in August
China was the biggest importer of South Korea’s computers and peripheral devices, followed by the US and EU. Korea saw outbound shipments of computers and peripheral devices increase with the exception of Vietnam. In particular, exports to Japan surged by 90.4% in export amount compared to the year-earlier period.
