Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s top memory chip maker, introduced new microSD cards with enhanced performance and stability on Sept. 8 to meet growing demand for high performance storage demand.
Samsung unveiled its new PRO Plus microSD and a redesigned and enhanced EVO Plus microSD card that offer faster read and write speeds, increased durability and various capacity options.
A SD card, a storage device based on flash memory chips, is often used for mobile digital gadgets such as smartphones, tablets and action cameras. Samsung has been expanding the product lineups as demand for high performance SD Cards quickly grew amid increasing personal media and use of ultra-high definition (UHD) videos.
“Surging demand for high performance storage raised the market’s request for memory cards that allow users to use and store data more smoothly and safely,” said Samsung’s brand product Biz team vice president Lee KyuYoung.
The PRO Plus is designed for professionals such as content creators, offering read and write speeds of up to 160MB/s and 120MB/s, respectively. The EVO Plus offers transfer speeds of up to 130MB/s, providing up to 1.3 times faster sequential read speed compared to the previous version.
Both offer improved six-proof protection, two more layers of protection than the previous generation, making them able to withstand water, extreme temperatures, x-ray, wear out, drops and magnetic impact. That allows customers to use those microSD cards stably in extreme environment.
Samsung tested their performance in various environment from minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 85 degrees. They also went through wear tests of more than 10,000 times.
