IAA Mobility 2021 to showcase global auto industry’s future technologies

The global auto industry is set to show off their muscle to fight for the future mobility market not only with new models but also technologies at the IAA Mobility 2021, the first international motor show after the COVID-19 breakout.

Carmakers such as Hyundai Motor Group, Volkswagen, Daimler AG and BMW will present electric vehicles, autonomous cars and related technologies in the event that takes place from Sept. 7 to Sept. 12 in Munich, Germany. Auto-part makers including Hyundai Mobis, Bosch and Denso will also join the show.

Hyundai Motor Co. plans to reveal its strategy for carbon neutrality, according to the industry sources on Aug. 23, as the European Commission is set to de facto ban to sell gasoline and diesel cars in the European Union by 2035. Hyundai had planned to fully electrify its product lineup in major global markets such as the US and Europe by 2040. But the South Korea’s top automaker needs to move it forward.

Hyundai was known to display IONIQ series, its all-electric car on an exclusive EV platform, including its popular IONIQ 5, the Prophecy concept, the IONIQ 6, which is to hit the market next year, at the show. The company was also understood to prepare exhibits related the IONIQ 7, an electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) and hydrogen cars.

German carmakers are set to show off their state-of-art models and technologies in the event which takes place at their home market. Mercedes-Benz will reveal the new Mercedes EQE, an electric alternative to the E-Class. It also plans to present five all-electric models and a high-performance hybrid car.

BMW will exhibit the iX, an all-electric sport activity vehicle (SAV), and the i4, an all-electric coupe. It plans to reveal its hydrogen fuel-cell X5 crossover SUV. Volkswagen is set to show the ID.5, a coupe version of its all-electric SUV ID.4.

HYUNDAI MOBIS TO PRESENT 30 TECHNOLOGIES

Auto parts makers are also gearing up for the show. Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Motor Group’s component manufacturing arm, said it will present about 30 future technologies related EV, autonomous driving and infotainment.

“We will resume on-site marketing in the global market starting from this exhibition,” said the company.

The world’s No.7 automotive supplier, will unveil the M.Vision X, an AI-included concept car for full autonomous driving, in a European premiere. All of the all-electric and zero-emission M.Vision X’s windows can be switched into a display for movies or sport games.

The IAA Mobility 2021 is set to show the next generation charging infrastructures such as a robot that is moving around a parking lot to charge EV, as well as battery recycle technologies. In addition, electric bicycles, electric trams and carbon neutral hydrogen airplanes will be exhibited.

The IAA Mobility, formerly the Frankfurt Motor Show, is one of the world’s four largest car fairs. It had been held in Frankfurt every odd year for over the last 70 years but moved to Munich from this year.
