Hyundai Motor Group unveils AI voice recognition technology for connected cars.

South Korea-based Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled new artificial intelligence-powered voice recognition technology to be installed in mass-produced cars from the second half of this year, the company said on Feb. 18.

"The new voice recognition technology will help drivers gain a better understanding of their automobiles, in terms of controlling and using various features," said Kwon Hae-young, the director of Hyundai Motor Group's infotainment division.

For example, drivers will be able to press the voice recognition button to ask when the engine oil needs to be changed without having to visit the maintenance shop. Also, when a warning light appears on the dashboard, drivers can make an inquiry and receive an appropriate response from the system.

The technology also expands the driver's scope of control as they can request to change the interior lighting or seat temperature via the voice recognition system. Upon receiving the command, the AI-powered technology will execute it through the connected car system.

Existing car owners can access the new technology by updating their navigation software.

Through the latest voice recognition technology, Hyundai Motor Group aims to beef up its offering of information and operations for customers. The Korean automaker plans to frequently update the voice commands to further enhance the customer experience for connected car services.
