Samsung Electronics unveils 110-inch premium MicroLED TV

Samsung Electronics Co. has unveiled a new 110-inch light-emitting diode (LED) TV as the South Korean tech giant aims to enhance its presence in the high-end TV market.

The MicroLED TV will sell at 170 million won (US$156,400) a unit, putting it among Samsung’s most expensive TV models.

Preorders for the luxury TV will begin later this month, with the official launch slated for the first quarter of 2021.

Samsung, the world's largest TV maker, first launched a MicroLED display TV in 2018 under the brand name The Wall for commercial use, rather than for households.

MicroLED TV uses micrometer-sized LED chips as singular pixels that can also self-illuminate, providing better resolution and higher clarity. But unlike organic LED displays, they use inorganic material that minimizes luminance decay concerns.

Samsung’s latest MicroLED TV features a "4Vue" function, which allows users to split the 110-inch display into four different 50-inch screens and enjoy multiple content at the same time.

The TV also has a monolith design that removes bezels from the display.

According to industry tracker Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the global MicroLED TV market is expected to expand from around $25 million this year to $228 million by 2026.
