South Korea’s LG Display Co. and US-based StudioLAB have entered a three-year partnership that will combine the local display maker's innovative OLED technology with Disney’s content. The two expect their partnership to evolve into a variety of projects to offer state-of-the-art viewing experiences.

LG Display announced on Oct. 21 that it will supply its signature 88-inch OLED 8K TVs to the Disney subsidiary handling post-production for Disney studios' films.

Marvel Studios, the Disney subsidiary behind The Avengers franchise, already uses OLED technology in its creative process with LG Display's OLED 8K TVs installed at various locations to review visual effects and color finishing.

"The quality of our OLED display will help raise the level of completion for filmmakers in the post-production process, such as through color grading or adding computer graphics," said a company source from LG Display.

LG Display will provide StudioLAB access to the company's advancements in OLED technology. Going forward, the two companies plan to cooperate on an array of projects to offer both filmmakers and consumers an interactive and immersive experience using OLED technology in various ways.

“This collaboration opens a whole new dimension of future possibilities. It’s exciting to be exploring the future with LG Display’s impressive engineers and amazing technology. We are already working on some very cool projects that we plan to deploy in the near future," said Matthew Deuel, the director of innovation partnerships for StudioLAB.

Earlier this week, LG Electronics Inc. unveiled the world’s first roll-up TV in the Korean market as the South Korean consumer electronics giant aims to enhance its presence in the high-end TV market.
