LG Electronics Inc. has unveiled the world’s first roll-up TV in the Korean market as the South Korean consumer electronics giant aims to enhance its presence in the high-end TV market.
The Signature OLED R will sell at 100 million won ($87,000) a unit, about twice the price of an 88-inch 8K OLED TV that is currently among LG’s most expensive, the company said in a statement on Oct. 20.
The 65-inch TV model, named RX, is highlighted by its screen that rises from a box and can be rolled back into the main body when not in use.
Depending on how much the screen is rolled up, it provides three different viewing modes, according to LG. When the screen is fully rolled back inside the box, it can be used as a Bluetooth speaker.
The company uploaded a teaser video on YouTube in mid-October announcing the imminent launch of the state-of-the-art TV.
LG said its overseas launch of LG Signature OLED R has not yet been fixed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The roll-up TV was first unveiled at US electronics expo CES 2019 as a finished product. At this year's CES, LG unveiled a different model of the TV with a screen that rolls down from the ceiling.
