South Korea’s Teachers Pension said on Sept. 5 that it has chosen as chief investment officer Kyuhong Lee, ex-CEO of Ascendas-Singbridge Korea, a Singapore-based asset manager.

The $16 billion pension scheme will officially appoint Lee to the two-year job later this month after background checks. His term can be extended by one year.

Kyuhong Lee was chosen as Teachers' Pension CIO among 17 applicants.
Kyuhong Lee was chosen as Teachers' Pension CIO on Sept. 5, 2019.

The CIO position has been left vacant since Dae-yang Park moved to the sovereign wealth fund Korea Investment Corporation as CIO last month.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Lee led Ascendas-Singbridge Korea as CEO for six months until December 2018.

Prior to that, he had worked as CIO of both NH-Amundi Asset Management in Korea and Eastspring Investmenst in Korea, part of UK Prudential plc, between 2004 and early 2018.

He majored in business administration at Yonsei University and earned an MBA from New York University.
