Hyundai Glovis opens smart logistics R&D center G-Lab

South Korean shipping and logistics company Hyundai Glovis Co. announced on Wednesday it has opened a research and development (R&D) space for smart logistics technology, called the G-Lab, in the Pyeongchon Industrial Complex in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Hyundai Glovis plans to nurture G-Lab, a 1,168-square-meter space, as an R&D hub that consolidates the company's logistics capabilities as a testbed.

Starting next year, the company will engage in tasks related to each of the four major target areas of logistics technology: automation equipment systems, mobile robots, articulated robots, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine vision, to strengthen its technological capabilities.

In addition, the company plans to leverage synergies with partner companies with which it has formed collaborative relationships through equity investments. Together with Altiall Inc., a logistics automation software specialist acquired in June this year, Hyundai Glovis will conduct comprehensive technical verification of smart logistics solutions.

Looking ahead, the company intends to consider the introduction of the logistics robot Stretch from Boston Dynamics, a global logistics robot company and a subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Group, in the domestic and international logistics field and explore ways to apply it starting from 2024.
