Danble taps into overlooked market of men's fashion for older millennials

The South Korean startup sources from more than 100 domestic contemporary brands; plans to include foreign labels too

Danble, operated by Tailor Town, is an online fashion platform serving the often-overlooked market of men’s fashion for those in their 30s and 40s. 

Tailor Town was voted the winner for this month’s demo day hosted by The Banks Foundation For Young Entrepreneurs, the operator of startup accelerator D.Camp. 

The June event was hosted in collaboration with the country’s eight leading universities, such as the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Ewha Women's University, and Hanyang University. 

The six startups that were chosen to pitch their products to venture capitalists on Thursday are all less than a year old. 

Tailor Town was established in March of this year. It has been running a beta version of Danble since January and maintained a 70% repurchase rate since then.

Kim Hee-su and three other friends from Yonsei University founded the company, which recommends up to 12 items to men in their 30s and 40s each month. 

“I was always into shopping online as I found it hard to find clothes that fit my petite frame off-line,” The 23-year-old co-founder said during her pitch. “Lo and behold, however, I realized the market for men in their 30s and up is even more underserved.”

The startup’s algorithm categorizes its users into five different sizes and stylists constantly update the recommendations. Every month, a user will receive up to 12 different outfits depending on the season, previous purchase patterns, and their indicated preferences at the time of joining the platform. 

They can also buy directly on the website or the app, from more than 100 domestic contemporary labels. 

The company plans to expand its services to golf wear, fashion accessories, and beauty – for the same demographic.

Tailor Town received its first injection of outside capital from Find Us, a Seoul-based virtual CFO operator, in March. 

Judges for June demo day included: WeVentures CEO Ha Tae-hoon, TBT Partners’ managing partner Ahn Jung-ho, FuturePlay partner Kwon Oh-hyoung, Sopoong Ventures Co. partner Choi Kyung-hee, as well as two representatives from D.Camp.
