Samsung unveils next-generation flagship mobile processor

The Exynos 2400 increases CPU performance by 1.7 times and AI performance by 14.7 times compared to the previous model

SAN JOSE, California -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s top memory chipmaker, on Thursday unveiled the Exynos 2400, a new premium mobile processor, to expand its presence in the gaming sector and generative artificial intelligence technology.

The South Korean company also introduced other analog and logic semiconductor technologies and outlined plans for future technological advancements during the Samsung System LSI Tech Day 2023 event at the US headquarters of the company’s semiconductor business in Silicon Valley.

“Generative AI has quickly emerged as perhaps the most significant trend of the year, demanding more powerful foundational technologies to process data and bring AI to life,” Park Yong-In, president and head of Samsung’s System LSI Business, said in a keynote speech.

“We are paving the path toward a new era of proactive AI, leveraging our Samsung System LSI Humanoid platform, which seamlessly converges our capabilities across a broad spectrum of logic semiconductors, from powerful computational IPs, connectivity solutions to sensors emulating the main five human senses.”

BETTER CPU, AI PERFORMANCES

The Exynos 2400 is equipped with the Xclipse 940 graphics processing unit (GPU) based on Advanced Micro Devices Inc.’s (AMD) latest RDNA 3 architecture, according to Samsung.

The new chipset increases central processing unit performance by 1.7 times and AI performance by 14.7 times compared to the previous Exynos 2200 model, the tech giant said.

Samsung showcased the latest mobile processor’s substantially enhanced ray tracing capability, which is set to improve realism and immersion in gaming through a range of optical effects such as global illumination, reflection and shadow rendering.

The company introduced a new AI tool designed for upcoming smartphones, demonstrating text-to-image AI generation using the Exynos 2400 reference board.

The maker of the Galaxy smartphone series unveiled Zoom Anyplace technology based on its 200-million-pixel image sensor. The technology will allow mobile users to take close-up pictures by four times of moving objects without any image degradation. AI-based tracking technology automatically follows and captures objects, all while recordings are made in full screen simultaneously, ensuring that no moment or detail is left uncaptured.

AUTOMOTIVE PROCESSOR, SENSORS

Samsung showcased the Exynos Auto V920, its latest in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) processor slated for mass production in 2025.

The Exynos V920, which will be used for the next-generation IVI systems of Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s top automaker, enabled 1.7 times greater processing performance than the previous model.

The new automotive chip can manage up to six high-resolution displays for dashboard, infotainment and rear seat entertainment systems, and up to 12 camera sensors that capture crucial visual information.

In addition, Samsung demonstrated the ISOCELL Auto and the ISOCELL Vizion to improve safety for both drivers and passengers. The ISOCELL Auto automotive image sensors provide an exhaustive 360-degree car vision from front to rear and surround-views. The ISOCELL Vizion can swiftly and accurately track moving objects.
