South Korean chip equipment company Hanmi Semiconductor Co. said on Friday that it has secured a 41.5 billion won ($31.4 million) deal with SK Hynix Inc., the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker.
The order, the largest in Hanmi's history, is for the second-generation "DUAL TC BONDER 1.0 Dragon," essential for the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) process in artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors.
This deal accounts for a significant 12.69% of Hanmi Semiconductor's last year's revenue, which totaled 327.6 billion won.
"Including upcoming patent applications, we have filed 106 patents for bonding equipment," a Hanmi source said. "We expect to further enhance our equipment competitiveness based on our unique technical prowess and durability."
The AI semiconductor market is slated for significant growth in the coming years.
According to global market research firm Gartner, the market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 17.3% from 2022, reaching an estimated $117 billion by 2030.
