Samsung Electronics Co.'s device solutions division has achieved ISO 22301 certification, the international business continuity management system (BCMS) standard, the world's top memory chip and smartphone maker said on Jan. 26.

The certificate, awarded by the British Standards Institution (BSI) to the chipmaking division, verifies an organization’s ability to resume business following a crisis.

The chipmaker will retain a robust BCMS to handle not only conventional crises but also new issues such as global supply chain disturbances, said Yoon Tae-yang, the executive vice president and chief safety officer (CSO) of the division.

Samsung has shown a strong will to ensrue robust business continuity management and has displayed world-class crisis monitoring and response capabilities, said BSI's Chief Operating Offer Lim Seong-hwan.

BCMS deals with the initial emergency response, as well as focuses on recovering and resuming core business activities in the shortest possible timeframe. Certification represents the highest level of commitment to business continuity and disaster preparedness, Samsung said.

The chipmaker has advanced its business continuity management for its Hwaseong Campus, Gyeonggi Province in Korea, to meet global standards. As part of its efforts, Samsung has evaluated the risks that could affect its semiconductor business and conducts precautionary exercises such as emergency drills.

The company is aiming for its other semiconductor campuses in Korea and abroad to also be certifified this year.
