Billboard to establish subsidiary in S.Korea in June 2024

The globally recognized American music entertainment media brand Billboard, known for its music charts, has announced the launch of its South Korean branch.

"In June, Billboard Korea will officially launch with the publication of 'BillboardK Vol.1' magazine," Billboard revealed on Monday. "We plan to collaborate with domestic entertainment platforms and brands to produce content, charts, performances and more."

Billboard Korea, a subsidiary of the Penske Media Corporation (PMC), a global digital media, publishing, and information services company, is preparing to launch a separate "Billboard Korea Chart."

An official website will also open ahead of the publication of the inaugural issue of 'BillboardK.'

"Now that the status of K-artists and K-pop has risen worldwide, Billboard Korea will play a crucial role in promoting K-culture," said Kim Yuna, publisher of Billboard Korea.

“We are thrilled to announce our expansion into Korea,” Billboard president Mike Van said in a statement. “Billboard has long celebrated the rich contribution of Korean music across our platforms. This expansion is a significant milestone for our brand and underscores our dedication to amplifying the voices and talent that shape the vibrant Korean music scene.”

Although Billboard Korea was established in 2017, operations were suspended last year following the acquisition of Billboard's headquarters by PMC in 2020.
