Goldman Sachs promotes YK Yoon in Seoul to MD

He has built expertise in fixed-income, currencies and commodities since joining the investment bank in 2013

The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. named YK Yoon, head of fixed-income, currency and commodities (FICC) of the Seoul office, as a new managing director (MD) in a press release on Thursday.

The investment bank announced the appointment of 608 individuals across 44 offices who will become new MDs as of Jan. 1, 2024.

Yoon has led transactions in a variety of assets like bonds, credit products, mortgages, currencies and commodities for Korean corporates and institutional investors since joining the investment bank in July 2013.

He has a bachelor's and master's in mathematics from the University of Oxford in the UK. From March 2007 to June 2010, he served as an officer in the South Korean Navy.

Goldman Sachs’ Seoul office opened in 1992 and started providing comprehensive financial services in 1998. The bank has invested more than $4.7 billion over the last 25 years.

It has led major deals such as Samsung Display Co.'s acquisition of US-based Corning Inc. in 2015, ING Group's sales of ING Life Korea in 2013 and KKR & Co.’s purchase of Oriental Brewery Co. (OB) in 2009.

The IB has also managed bond issuances of state-run Korea Development Bank (KDB), the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) and Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) and companies like Samsung Electronics Co. and Hyundai Motor Co.
