Teachers’ Pension is a pension scheme for South Korean private school teachers and employees, with 18.4 trillion won ($16 billion) in assets under management as of the end of 2019. Alternative investments, worth 3.9 trillion won, account for 21.2%, evenly divided into domestic and overseas assets. Its alternative portfolio includes private equity, real estate and infrastructure. The pension fund entrusts overseas alternative investments to leading global management companies with a long track record.

Lee Kyuhong started his financial career by taking both sell-side and buy-side analyst roles. Lee has held multiple CIO roles at numerous asset management firms, during which he has accumulated broad experience in traditional investment sector such as stocks, bonds, quant trading (e.g. smart beta), multi-asset investing, as well as alternative sector including real estate, infrastructure, PE and VC. He has held his first CEO role in 2018 at a real estate asset management firm and took his current role as the CIO at Teachers’ Pension in October 2019. Lee is currently responsible for long-term investment of 20 trillion won in 6 different asset classes.
