South Korea's plant builder Doosan Enerbility plans to secure ammonia cracking technology which can be utilized for hydrogen co-fired power plants. Ammonia cracking is a technology that produces hydrogen by decomposing ammonia at high temperatures.

Doosan Enerbility announced on Thursday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Johnson Matthey (JM), a UK-based ammonia cracking solution provider, for cooperation in the ammonia cracking business.

Kwang-yeol Lee, head of Doosan Enerbility's turbo-machinery business unit, and Simon Stanbridge, head of JM's business development unit, attended the signing ceremony held at Doosan Enerbility's headquarters in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province.

Through the partnership, JM will provide ammonia cracking process design technology and catalysts and Doosan Enerbility will be in charge of technologies necessary for the projects such as the detailed design of the ammonia cracking process, manufacturing, and construction of equipment and materials.

In addition, the two companies plan to jointly develop design technology to integrate the ammonia cracking process and hydrogen combined cycle power generation so that they can apply it to hydrogen co-fired power generation in the future.
