42dot launches its first B2B self-driving shuttle service

42Dot, a self-driving technology affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, on Tuesday said it launched a self-driving shuttle at Samsung Mobility Museum in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.

42dot’s self-driving integrated platform Tap is used to bring the vehicle to its passengers at the museum. The eight-seater can accommodate seven passengers and one safety officer.

The shuttle departs from its boarding point at the museum’s outdoor park and runs at five-minute intervals in the form of a circulating track. Running on its own, it recognizes its surroundings in real time with 12 internal cameras and six radars.

42dot’s shuttle earlier served the public in the Sangam-dong neighborhood and Cheonggye Stream of Seoul. Starting with the operation at the museum, the company will expand its self-driving shuttle unit to the business-to-business market.

The corporate adoption of self-driving shuttles is expected to support employee commuting and efficient staff movement at workplaces, 42dot said. Its plan is to develop package solutions and services like those of autonomous driving technology and platforms and fleet management system.
