South Korea's Taekwang Industrial Co. announced on Monday that it started to export its modacrylic, a high-quality wig material yarn.
Modacrylic is a polyacrylic fiber used in synthetic wigs and flame-retardant materials.
Following Japan's Kaneka, Taekwang Industrial became the world's second company to commercialize modacrylic, launching the Modabon brand in 2021 successfully.
Since the beginning of this year, Taekwang Industrial has reviewed modacrylic's market growth potential and business viability.
After enhancing production facilities and improving processes, the company began producing export volumes in earnest this past March.
"Considering the characteristics of the wig market, we are accelerating sales by offering a variety of colors," a company source said.
"We plan to gradually increase production in line with rising sales volumes, targeting the primary consumer markets of Africa and North America."
