Hyundai Wia Corp. has been awarded a silver medal from EcoVadis in recognition of its continuing effort toward its sustainability credentials, the company said on Wednesday.

Established in France, EcoVadis is an ESG evaluation platform used by 100,000-plus companies in 175 countries around the world, and the new award puts the company in the top 25% of the assessed.

EcoVadis evaluates businesses across 21 indicators, divided into four categories: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Business Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

EcoVadis recognized Hyundai Wia's commitment to environmental management. Hyundai joined the RE100 initiative of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a global environmental management certification body under which it will cover 100% of its electricity consumption with renewable energy by 2045.

Hyundai Wia's transparency toward environmental safety was also highly complimented. In its sustainability report, Hyundai disclosed the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, energy usage, and implementation of the greenhouse gas emission trading system at home and abroad.

With the EcoVadis certification, Hyundai has secured an advantageous position to expand the auto parts business with global automakers as they use EcoVadis' evaluation as a major indicator to assess business partners. Based on this, it plans to continue to receive more orders for auto parts from all over the world.

"We are happy to be recognized for our ESG management performance by global ESG agencies. We will continue to make more efforts to strengthen ESG activities," said an official from Hyundai Wia.
